APPLE OF GOD'S EYE.
The apple of God’s eye speaks of God’s love and care for His faithful people. The apple of the eye is the pupil, something greatly valued and dear. To be the apple of God’s eye is to be His great possession and therefore untouchable by the enemy. In this case, only sin can make us vulnerable. The Psalmist knows this and he prayed - "Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings." (Psa.17.8.NIV); that is, make me your special possession.
Israel became God’s treasured possession because of His covenant with Abraham which was based on the obedience of Abraham (Gen. 12:1-4) and his faith (Gen. 15:6) and which produced this promise "Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,..." (Exo.19.5.NIV)
We know that through obedience and faith in the only begotten Son of God, believers in Jesus Christ are also God's special possession - the apple of His eye. "Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” ...
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy." (1 Pet.2.7, 9-10.NIV)
This is why believers can bathe in the knowledge of Zechariah 2:8: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—FOR WHOEVER TOUCHES YOU TOUCHES THE APPLE OF HIS EYE — " (NIV)
God does not take it lightly when anyone mistreats His treasured possession. The war/battle automatically becomes that of God even when anyone mocks or refuses to help His treasure when they need help (Ezek. 35).
For those of us who have seen the light, we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and run with endurance the race that is set before us (Heb. 12:1)
THE WORD: “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here." (Zec.3.7.NIV)
