BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED.
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." (Isa.53.5.NIV)(1 Pet. 2:24)
What does by His stripes we are healed mean?
1. He was pierced for our transgression - wounded for our SIN.
2.He was crushed for our iniquities - broken or crumbled or deformed for our wickedness.
3. The punishment for our Peace was on Him - infliction of some kind of pain for misdeeds for our freedom.
4. By His stripes we are healed - by wounds inflicted on Him we are made whole.
What are these stripes?
The stripes are wounds inflicted on Jesus from the beating on His back with the Roman flagrum, a whip with sharp objects like bone or metal attached to it to cause maximum damage and pain.
Jesus did not only suffer public humiliation which must have shattered Him emotionally, He suffered maximum physical damage in His body from head to toes. Only His Spirit and His bones were not destroyed. (The bones represents the basic human structure and strength.)
What do we derive from it?
If we can picture and absorb the maximum physical damage to Jesus' body, we can then glimpse the terrible and terrifying anger of God towards our sin and wickedness which completely separated us from Him. It is very dark! There was no way we could have risen from the ashes without the suffering of Jesus before, on the cross and the grave. So, the first thing is our salvation - a total reconciliation, an acceptable sacrifice for our sin and wickedness called GRACE. Second, Jesus' suffering was from inside out; by accepting Him as our Lord and Saviour, we are washed from inside out for our freedom both spiritually and physically. This then leads us to physical healing from sicknesses and diseases. "One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases......to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick." (Luk.9.1-2.NLT)
Physical healing from diseases is included in Jesus' sacrifice if we believe.
THE WORD: “These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe:...........They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” (Mark.16.17-18.NLT)
