PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.

FROM JUDAH TO JESUS.
The prophecies or the last words of Jacob to his twelve sons in Genesis 49 was quite revealing of what they were like and future significance of their character. It was like a father blessing/cursing his sons as each deserved based on their revealed character but most importantly it became the mirror into the future of Israel and the messianic lineage.
To Judah he said: “Judah, your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons will bow down to you. You are a lion’s cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness—who dares to rouse him? The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his. He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch; he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes. His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk.
(Gen.49.8-12.NIV). What is his connection to Jesus?
The New covenant is based purely on repentance and forgiveness of sins permanently (Heb. 8:7-12) because Jesus paid the price with His own life. Judah was instrumental to the sale of Joseph to the Ishmaelites (Gen.37:26-27) and it was him who was willing to take the place of Benjamin (Gen.44:18-34) a role reserved for Jesus Christ. Judah did this before Joseph revealed himself and based on the promise he made to his father Jacob which is similar to that between the Father and Son, Jesus Christ (John 10:17-18)
Jacob also described Judah as the lion's whelp or curb (Gen. 49:9). The significance is; a lion will defend its bride with its own life. Jesus gave His life for His bride - those who believe in Him. "......just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word," (Eph.5.25-26.NIV)
Judah was the law giver. Jesus is "the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel."

Judah demonstrated the character Jesus is looking for in His followers hence the Messiah lineage. Is Judah spotless? No! Our imperfection is made perfect in Christ Jesus.
THE WORD: "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
