IS GOD TRULY MY FIRST LOVE? - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.

IS GOD TRULY MY FIRST LOVE?
If God's demand for my time clashes with other interests of mine, which will I attend first? This is a question we all must confront to enable us gauge this truth.

“Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (Mark.12.28-30.NIV; Cf Exodus 20:1-8). This is reinforced by Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well"(NIV)
Throughout Jesus' ministry on earth, He put God first. Every sacrifice He made was to glorify God and to redeem man.

The covenant of God with Abraham is, “I am God Almighty; walk before me FAITHFULLY and be BLAMELESS. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” (Gen.17.1-2.NIV)

GOD FIRST, DEMONSTRATED.
To Abraham He said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” (Gen.22.2.NIV). Abraham didn't refuse but obeyed demonstrating that God is his first love not Isaac.

To Ezekiel God said, “Son of man, with one blow I will take away your DEAREST TREASURE. Yet you must not show any sorrow at her death. Do not weep; let there be no tears.......So I proclaimed this to the people the next morning, and in the evening my wife died. (Ezek.24.16-18.NLT). Was Ezekiel's wife his first love in spite of his 'one of a kind' ministry?

JOB lost everything but his faith, his first love. He wrote: "And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;" (Job.19.26.NIV)

Paul wrote, "But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ." (Phil.3.7.NIV)

Every man and woman of faith worthy of the Hall of Fame, made God their first love. And all those who compromised, didn't get a foothold. So, let us ask ourselves the question again: Is God my first love?

There is nothing we acquired in this world that we will not leave behind when our time is up. What we can take with us is our uncompromising faith in the Everlasting Father.

THE WORD: “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life." (Mark.10.29-30.NIV)
