PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.

"FOR I RECOGNISE MY REBELLION."
The greatest battle we fight is the battle of the mind. And this battle is about control - who is in control or who should be in control. When we were still in the world and for the world, this battle, though present, did not seem so obvious because it appeared as if we were in absolute control of who we were and who we want to be. This, of course, became more obvious when we believed we were no longer under parental control. The first act of rebellion was against parents because they were our first god. Some of us called it liberation but its real name is rebellion. We believed our lives is ours and we can do whatever we like with it. This assumption is usually short lived because we soon began to experience a hollow in the mind, a lack of satisfaction even when we did what we 'love' to do.
Some of the moral and spiritual lessons we learnt from parents come to mind. We decided to put this to test only to find out that we are restricted more
than what we have in mind (the freedom we envisaged). This is the second level of rebellion and the battle for control becomes fierce daily. It leads some into depression or mental illness. They seem to keep falling without safety net while some saw the light and feel fulfilled.
This also is short-lived because it is like falling back into the cage we escaped. We want to be for Christ but a part of us longs for the world. Light and darkness do not mix hence the constant battle of the mind. It is so easy to fall back than to move forward just like the Israelites in the wilderness (to go back to Egypt was easier - known territory). This is the third level of rebellion. This probably was where David was when he wrote: "For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night (Psa. 51:3). Why? Because we know the difference, we know the taste of good and evil hence, he confessed; "Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. For I was born a sinner....." (Psa.51.4-5.NLT)
Every person is marred from birth by a selfish inclination to pursue his or her own desires and pleasures, even if it causes pain and suffering for others. This can be purged from our lives when we allow the Word and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
THE WORD: “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams." (1 Sam.15.22NLT)
