WHEN WE FALL BACK INTO SIN!
Throughout the Bible, we see a pattern where whenever Israel falls back into sin, God exiled them, or HE strengthened the ungodly nations against them, so that when they go to war, they are defeated to their own shame and because God did not go with them. "Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel."
(Jdg.3.12.NIV). Even Habakkuk questioned God on this observation. "Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?" (Habak.1.13.NIV). Why?
The ultimate purpose behind this form of punishment, according to the Bible, is not to destroy but to bring about eventual repentance and restoration. God's actions though they may appear severe, are ultimately guided by His covenant promises and His desire for His people to return to Him. In other words, God uses the world system or the enemies to discipline the 'faithful' who falls back into sin (a) because it seems we are yet to fully appreciate what we have, the power we possess as believers in Christ Jesus, and (b) we still long to be worldly somehow, like the Prodigal son, until we scream; "Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help. Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me." (Psa.22.11-13.NIV)
The point is, we already, confessed that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour. We have renounced the world, its rulers and everything in between. We have lived the righteousness of Christ but we still crave the sins of the world. We cannot have both. “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other......" (Mat.6.24.NIV).
We are to come to Jesus fully, or not at all. There is no half measure. God waits for when we are fully ready to come and stay NOT less. Sin is deadly, stay away from it.
THE WORD: "Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,........."
