ARE YOU TRULY FREE?
Today is independence day. A day that is claimed to set us free from our colonial past. A day that is celebrated as if we are better off now, than our past. A day of liberation where we have all we need, can do what we want, live as we dream, and just breathe in pure unadulterated air. But are we truly free?
Freedom to a child is not living under parental care but the child soon learn that being under care is less stressful if he overlooked the price he pays for their rules compared to having no food on the table, having to pay rent, and having to fall into bad company!
Freedom from the worlds perspective is not the same Freedom that the Bible promises. "There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death." (Rom.8.1-2.NIV) "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." (John.8.36.NIV)
True freedom sings; “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything." (1 Cor.6.12.NIV).
True freedom is found when we abide with the Holy Spirit and learn to trust God's direction for our lives. Freedom is not something GRANTED TO US BY MAN, AND IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT ALLOWS US TO LIVE THE WAY WE THINK IS BEST. TRUE FREEDOM IS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO RECOGNISE THE SUPREMACY OF GOD AND CHOOSE TO WALK WITH HIM IN RELATIONSHIP. "But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere....... Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God." (2 Cor.2.14&17.NIV)
Believers' freedom comes from being free from sin which easily entangles us. And because we are sin-free, fear disappears, guilt bows out in shame, peace occupies our once troubled minds and we walk with our heads held high even in the face of trials and tribulations. This is true freedom.
Are you truly free?
THE WORD: “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,....." (Isa.61.1.NIV)
