PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.

DEDICATED HOUSE OF PRAYER OR "A DEN OF ROBBERS."
Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “ ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’” (Mat.21.12-13.NIV)
Let us ask ourselves; why were the money changers and animal market in the temple? Their presence seemed legitimate since all the nations of Israel come together from far and near to worship God in the temple in Jerusalem. They need animals (doves, goats, sheep) for their daily sacrifices to God. Carrying these animals to Jerusalem was burdensome and carrying cash was easier. The money changers on the scene looked like blessing for many to exchange money to local currency. But Jesus saw it differently and flogged them out.
What has changed since then - (2000 years ago)?
Absolutely Nothing. During the dedication of church buildings, the declaration is always that the building is a house of prayer. But as the churches expand, kiosk begin to spring up for the sales of snacks to real food, to drinks, to books, anointing oil, anointed water, envelopes, then children wears, toys, POS stands and banks for real banking operations. Children will leave the service to buy snacks and adults know it is easier to shop on the church premises. Surprisingly, not all sellers are members of the church and much more is the likelihood of the Pastor's wife having a stall too.
We can rationalize these expansions to the house of prayer but can we justify same? Everything is transactional and where is the communion with God when people discuss business during service? "Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; (1 Cor.3.18-19.NIV).
Are we seeking God or money? You may argue that not all the worshippers are involved. But has God changed His mind in wanting all to be saved?
Stay alert; satanic presence is not violent, it is subtle and seemingly reasonably convincing.
THE WORD: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (Mark.12.30.NIV)
