PSALM ELEVEN (11)
The Word of God is deeper than the depths of the oceans and always in plain sight yet, we see, read, without understanding until God, Himself, through His Spirit, opens our eyes of understanding. This is true of Psalm 11. Psalm eleven doesn't scream like Psalms 23 or 24. You can read it without a second thought. Yet, it holds a powerful revelation of human advice in comparison with faith in God alone.
[1] In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain.
[2] For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.
[3] When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psa.11.1-3.NIV)
Here, David's friends advised him to "flee like a bird to your mountain" at a time he was running from king Saul. But he replied: "In the Lord I take refuge." In other words, how can you give me fear in place of my faith in the Lord? The wicked only target the righteous and there is only one place the righteous can run - The Righteous God. When friends advice you, it is laden with fear and fear is of the devil.
David's friends supported their stand: "when the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? That means when the government is rotten, corrupt, you join the bandwagon. Sounds familiar!
David rejected his friends advice; preferred his trust in the Lord. Job turned his back on his friends advice/accusations; for his intimate knowledge of God. Rehoboam trusted his friends advice and he reigned over two nations instead of twelve nations. He lost ten nations. Jesus Christ rebuked Peter for his wrong advice (Mat.16:22-23). Hold on to your faith in God, you cannot fail nor fall.
Friends (earthly/human) advice is always wrapped in fear and anxiety not love. A child of God knows better than to live in the dark. Some of us are living a life of regret because you took your friends advice choosing fear over faith. Short (or no) sightedness over the plan of God. Temporary solution for lasting solution. Quick fix for permanent fix. You Must Know Your Bible.
THE WORD: "The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them........On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face." (Psa.11.4, 6-7.NIV)
