“DO NOT FORGET GOD,” HE IS THE FOUNDATION OF ALL THINGS!
There are three possibilities of how we perceive God:
●Deny God – when we are too comfortable
●Hate God – when we are too poor
●Love God – when we allow Jesus Christ into our lives
God is the foundation of all things. He created all things by Himself and for Himself (Col.1:16). When we cut Him off, it simply means we have no foundation. And if we do not have His foundation, there is no other foundation, and automatically, there will be a serious crash because there is no foundation or no solid foundation. “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 3:11 NIV)
Moses warns us that money can make us forget God. Comfort can make us forget our humble beginnings. It is so easy to forget that we were once poor and easy to forget the provider. Children forget that their parents are instrumental to their success. Spouses forget the help rendered by their partners. The business man forgets the person that gave him the start-off fund. We wear pride like a garment and temptation becomes our ‘best friend.’ We sin without shame. It is only in Jesus that we have sanity.
No wonder God told the Israelites “Do not eat it with bread made with yeast, but for seven days eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, because you left Egypt in haste—so that all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt.” (Deut. 16:3 NIV). Likewise, Paul spoke about a thorn in his flesh; “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming CONCEITED, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor. 12:7b-9a NIV)
When we are too poor, we may steal and unable to keep God’s commandments. And if we cannot keep His commandments, it means we don’t love Him and we dishonor His name.
A wise man builds on the Rock; a foolish man builds on the sand
THE WORD: "But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Mat.7.26-27.NIV)
