"DO NOT FORGET GOD" - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.

"DO NOT FORGET GOD."
“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die:  Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.” (Prov. 30:7-9 NIV) (The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance to Ithiel: Prov. 1a NIV)

Something happened in the wilderness, there, the Israelites had to totally depended on God for everything they needed. They had no houses, no farmlands, no tools for farming, no water to drink, no possibility of a changing cloth or shoes and no weapon of war. God was the source of all their needs – their DAILY NEEDS. The manna came down daily without fail for forty years. In this circumstance, it will be foolish for any of them to forget God. God was the constant in their lives. God even taught them how to live better than other nations when He gave them the commandments. But then, Moses warned them several times not to forget God. Several authors of the Bible also echo this warning. Why?

Moses gave us the reason: “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become PROUD and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” (Deut. 8:11-14 NIV) To be PROUD, means to claim that everything they achieved was by their own power, diligence, and wisdom.

It is very easy to forget God – we need to be honest with ourselves. Ten lepers experienced God’s miracle but only one remembered the source of his healing. But while they were all lepers, they totally depended on God for their healing. We are not different! When your situation, (your leprosy) depended on only God, you were in the church for every program. Some of you even joined the evangelism team. But after healing, after the shame was removed, YOU FORGET YOUR FIRST LOVE. Remember from where you have fallen and repent.

THE WORD: "Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread." (Pro.30.8.NIV)
