FEED ON EVERY WORD THAT COMES FROM GOD.
“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, TO TEACH YOU THAT MAN DOES NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT COMES FROM THE MOUTH OF THE LORD” (Deut. 8:2-3 NIV)
A few things happened in the above Bible verses:
●God led them in the wilderness
●To humble them
●To test them to know what was in their heart
●Causing them to hunger
●Then feeding them with manna from heaven
●To teach them that man does not live by bread alone
●But to live on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
God used one action to feed two needs. (1) They were in the wilderness and their only compass is the word of God to direct them. Otherwise, they will all die while looking for a way out of the wilderness. This emphasized the need and the importance of the word of God. (The world is our wilderness). (2) They were physically hungry too and needed food. So, God gave them manna from heaven to satisfy two hungers (spiritual (His commandments) and physical hunger). Manna represented the bread from heaven (the word of God who came from heaven – Jesus Christ) to satisfy both spiritual and physical needs. (without Me, you can do nothing.)
What we see now goes into the heart of the parables of THE HIDDEN TREASURE AND THE PEARL (Mat. 13:44-45). The man who found these treasure – THE WORD OF GOD – sold all he had to buy the field; meaning he gave up his all for the word.
The world will choke us and or swallow us without the word of God to guide us. Obedience to God is the key.
THE WORD: "For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." (Heb.4.12.NLT)
