'IF NOT FOR ME...... - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
Nov. 17th, 2025

“IF NOT FOR ME………”
We have heard people boast that they ‘made’ someone else. This is usually said in a derogatory manner especially if the accused failed to repay their ‘kindness’ irrespective of whether he is in a position to do so or not. This means there are strings attached to their ‘kindness.’ These people never forget their acts of ‘kindness’. They see it as investment and may be rightly so too but what kind of investment is it – long term investment or short term? It is written: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38 NIV) Another question is: when you give, what type of seed are your planting? The seed that produces what you will consume in a short term or the one that turns into a mighty tree which produces continuously for generations?

It is important to know that every act of kindness is rewarded by God not necessary by the receiver. “Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.” (Mark 9:41 NIV) “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.” (Eph. 6:7-8 NIV) Are you truly serving God when you give or glorifying yourself?

It is unfortunate that many have destroyed others psychologically with remarks such as ‘if not for me’ or ‘I made you’ or spread it like a trophy and often times, prematurely. Premature because the receiver is not yet in the position to repay. Sometimes, the beneficiaries of such investments are not even the investors but their descendants. One thing is certain; a wholehearted kindness never goes unrewarded.

The moral of this, don’t expect anything in return for your act of kindness. You should be fully aware that you equally received help from some people to get to where you are. Once you claim glory instead of giving God the glory, you have lost your reward. Reward from God is better than reward from man.

THE WORD: "He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: “Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds............Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!" (Mat.13.3, 8.NLT)
