“I KNOW YOUR LABOUR.”
“I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.” (Rev. 2:2-3 NIV)
This Bible verse is meant for the church in Ephesus, their assessment by Jesus Christ, Himself. The church in Ephesus is being prepared as His Bride. You might say that this is a preview, a screen shot of who they are before the final assessment. There is nothing hidden before God. He sees all your labour in His vineyard. What you do in the church for His name’s sake. Your diligence in your assignments and all the work you volunteered to do without anyone prompting you. He knows your secret giving – especially when you didn’t have much yourself. He sees the love shown not in pretense but in compassion being moved by the Spirit. God knows your level of obedience and your struggles/determination to please Him. He knows the insult you bear for His name’s sake. He sees your tears. He sees your eagerness to do more even when you do not have the means. But there is a BUT -
“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.” (Rev. 2:4 NIV) This refers to the first deep love for and devotion to Christ and His Word. This warning teaches us that knowing the correct doctrine, obeying some of the commandments, and worshipping in the church are not enough. You must have a heartfelt love for Jesus Christ and ALL His word (2 Cor. 11:3). Sincere love for Christ results in single-hearted devotion to Him, purity of life, and a love of the truth. This takes us back to our conversion experience – how we desire nothing in the whole world but Jesus and His Word. But gradually, that flame is glowing deem because we are being choked on all sides by things of this world, carrying problems we should give to Jesus. Looking at others with their lands and gold. The challenge of false prophets. Our score card that was 90% is now 50%. We need to wake up. We need a revival before it is too late.
THE WORD: ".........I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ." (2 Cor.11.2b-3.NIV)
