"YOU HAVE DWELT LONG ENOUGH ON THIS MOUNTAIN." (Deut. 1:6) - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
Nov. 3rd, 2025

‎"YOU HAVE DWELT LONG ENOUGH ON THIS MOUNTAIN." (Deut.1:6)
‎The Israelites have wandered for forty years in the wilderness and then something happened: "In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the Lord had commanded him concerning them......The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain.......See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.” (Deut.1.3,6,8.NIV)

Delay is not denial - you have dwelt too long on this mountain and now, you should move forward and take your possession, the land, which was promised you. This was after years of wandering  almost at the same spot - a life of near stagnancy, of doubts, sleeplessness, fasting, praying, despair and desperation as if God had turned His back. Forty days turned forty years because the people were divided on who powered their existence and their victories. Ten out of the twelve spies Moses sent to spy the land, saw in themselves defeat while two spies saw victory not in their own power but in the power of the Almighty God who delivered them out of Egypt. Ironically, Israel at the time of Rehoboam was divided into 2/10.

David like Caleb and Joshua, didn't see Giant. He saw God's power at work and  His promise that 'He will defeat our enemies' (Deut. 28:7)

When we are facing challenges, we ought to remember that the battle is not ours but the Lord's and quickly turn them to Him. This not only guarantees our victory almost instantly, but saves us from having to wait longer because we do not acknowledge the power of the Most High God.

When Abraham/Sarah asked God 'how can this be?' They got an answer: Is there anything impossible for Me to do? They waited! Compare to when the Angel appeared to Mary and she asked a similar question. The angel replied that the Holy Spirit will come upon her. Her response was - 'let it be to me according to your word.' Her pregnancy was instant.

Our responsibility is to trust God.

THE WORD: "My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
(Psa.121.2-3.NIV)
