GOD IS SPIRIT (2)
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? THE WORDS I SPEAK ARE NOT MY OWN, BUT MY FATHER WHO LIVES IN ME DOES HIS WORK THROUGH ME. JUST BELIEVE THAT I AM IN THE FATHER AND THE FATHER IS IN ME. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.” (John 14:8-11 NLT)
The response of Jesus to Philip’s question (John 14:9-11) is more revealing and understandable when read with John 1:18 in mind. It goes to confirm that God is spirit and Jesus took on the flesh, and acted in total obedience to whatever the Spirit of God in Him tells Him to do.
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names,.” (Phil. 2:5-9 NLT) We too must provide room in our hearts for Him because there is no room at the Inn. So, stop clinging to material things, or any human being as representing God. Open your heart instead to Him as His dwelling place – provide a place where God can rest. Because God is an invisible, non-physical, omnipresent, and eternal being, not limited by space, time, or a physical body.
God never told us to LIVE IN THE PAST, rather, the past is for our knowledge and examples. “These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.” (1 Cor. 10:11 NLT). He never told us to LIVE IN THE FUTURE – the future is our HOPE by faith. He told us to LIVE IN THE PRESENT and our present is how we live NOW. “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.” (John 14:26 NLT)
THE WORD: “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."
(Rom.15.5-6.NIV)
