LOVE GIVES, THEREFORE; LOVE IS GIVING. - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
Jan. 9th, 2026

LOVE GIVES, THEREFORE; LOVE IS GIVING.
This is how God’s love gives and how God shared His love with the world, thereby showing us that love is the ultimate sacrifice.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV) Nobody showed love, or gave love until God did. Hence “We love because God first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) Adam did not take the fall for his wife, instead; he blamed his fall on her. That was not love. There was no sacrifice. Love involves sacrifice.

LOVE IS giving. Jesus voluntarily gave His life to demonstrate His love for the world. He said; “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

LOVE IS lending to the poor and not asking for it. “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great,” (Luke 6:35 NIV) LOVE IS turning the other cheek. “If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” LOVE IS giving peace a face. ”If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.”  If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” (Mat.5:39-41 NIV) LOVE IS SACRIFICE! LOVE IS forgiveness. Why?  “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35) “For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38) LOVE IS ACTION, active and lively. (1 Cor. 13)

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.  If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” (1 John 3:16-17) The question is, can we truly love as we ought especially to the sharing (not surrendering all) of our material
possessions? And can we remain consistent?

If you find the answer to the last question difficult to answer, you are not alone. We need His grace to be compliant. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW LOVE TO HAVE LOVE AND TO SHARE LOVE.

THE WORD: “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing." (1 Cor.13.2.NIV; 1 John 4:8)
