PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
Jan. 3rd, 2026
OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE. (II)
“Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you...” (1 Sam. 15:23b NIV)
Jesus said: “Whoever is not with me is against me,” (Mat.12:30a) – that is rejection by disobedience. “No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” (John 15:4 NIV) – This could be why many Christians are not bearing fruit – disobedience will not bear fruit. “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” (Mat. 10:37:38 NIV) – we have to prioritize Jesus; not to do so, is disobedience. Paul added: “And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.” (Rom. 8:9b NIV) – No one can have the spirit of Christ without first obeying His commands/instructions.
Partial obedience is disobedience:
God instructed king Saul: “Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.” (1 Sam. 15:3 NIV) – what did he do? “But I did obey the Lord,” Saul said. “I went on the mission the Lord assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king. The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God at Gilgal.” (1 Sam. 15:20-21 NIV) – he was rejected as king.
Jesus said: “But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” (Mat. 10:33 NIV) – to disobey is to disown Him and or deny Him.
Let us stop praying like the prophets of Baal.
“So they shouted louder and slashed themselves....Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.” (1 kings 18:28-29 NIV)

When do believers shout unto the Lord?
When we are praising Him (Psa. 100; 150). But when we pray,.....(Mat.6:5-7)
THE WORD: “When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get." (Mat.6.5.NLT)
