THEIR SORROW SHALL MULTIPLY.

“Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips.” (Psa. 16:4 NIV)

Psalm 16 is a song of dependence on God, assurance of His promises, confession, and commitment to Him. David, the author, is sure of the faithfulness and goodness of God to such an extent that he detests the worship of other gods. He indicated that there is no joy in going after other gods. It only multiplies sorrow.

What David is saying is that these other paths that people choose, are paths of deep sorrow, sadness, and grief.  There is no happiness outside of the God of the Bible, the One God, The Creator, and His Christ.  Those outside, who have chosen others, can only distract themselves, get "mood altered", be in more of a delusion, and be more and more deceived, becoming deceivers. Death, destruction, and massive heartache is their inheritance. Sometimes, people who say they have 'no religion' are also choosing another god or gods. 

The first three commandments are about making God the only God (Exo. 20:1-4). And in Mark 12:30, these verses are compressed into one “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

There is only one place of dwelling for God in the human body, it is the heart. God designed it so and until He occupies the right place in our heart, we are like chaff that the wind blows in different directions. Until God occupies His rightful place in our hearts, love, joy, peace, kindness, patience and the rest of the fruit of the spirit will be far away leaving one with a hollow heart - a place of dwelling for all the vices of the flesh and its fleeting lusts and hangover of loss, emptiness and sadness. Jesus said; “but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” (Mat. 8:20) 

Make your heart His throne.

THE WORD: “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” (Psa. 16:5-6 NIV)
