INTERCESSION – YOUR PRAYER MATTERS.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” (1 Tim. 2:1-4 NIV)
Intercessory prayer is talking to God on behalf of someone else, asking Him to help, heal, or guide them according to His will and according to the circumstance or challenges of the individual or group. Intercessory prayer is not merely a duty we owe to one another; it is rooted in LOVE AND COMPASSION. A desire that fits into what Jesus, Himself did for mankind for our salvation. It is one sure way to imitate Jesus Christ. Intercessory prayers bring lost souls to Christ. And many who had come to know Him did so because someone or some people stood in the gap for them. Intercessors are not known or seen like the Pastors but their contributions are crucial in the church, community, nations, and in the world.
THE POWER OF INTERCESSION:
God was about to destroy the nation Israel when Moses interceded following the golden calf incident, where he pleads with God to spare the nation from destruction, even offering his own life in exchange for their forgiveness. “So, he said he would destroy them - had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.” (Psa. 106:23 NIV)
“Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.” (Acts 12:5-7 NIV) Peter was SLEEPING not praying. The prayers of the saints avail much. (James 5:16)
IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS MINISTRY MAY BE DYING because we are reduced to seeing ourself alone. And when we pray for others, we pray not with the compassion required for our prayer to ascend to God. “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” (Ezek. 22:30 NIV)
THE WORD: “Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." (Isa.53.12.NIV)
