YOU NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT. (3) - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Feb. 25th, 2026.

DID YOU RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN YOU BELIEVED?

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”

“John’s baptism,” they replied.

Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve men in all. (Acts 19:1-7 NIV)

You need to ask yourself the question: Did I receive the Holy Spirit? Have I received the Holy Spirit since I believed? What do I believe - baptism of repentance or in Jesus Christ according to John 3:16? “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV) Whosoever truly believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and surrenders his/her life to Him as Lord and Saviour, automatically receives the Holy Spirit. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NIV)

Water baptism is not the same as the Holy Spirit baptism.  “For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:5 NIV). I was born into Christian family and all my life I have attended Church is no ticket to being saved; it only leads to it if you confess with your mouth and believe with your heart that Jesus is Lord and Saviour.

Many Christians are in limbo like the disciples of John the Baptist. They are like the watchman who labours in vain because no one can work efficiently in Christ without the Holy Spirit. Churches who reject the operations of the Holy Spirit probably seek other sources of power through other gods. DO NOT BE A BLIND CHRISTIAN. SEEK CHRIST AND HIS SPIRIT.

THE WORD: “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[e] his Spirit who lives in you.” (Rom. 8:11 NIV)
