WE ARE WASHED BEFORE WE ARE MADE WHOLE. - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Mar. 30th, 2026.

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.” (Mat. 21:12-13 NIV) Jesus cleansed the temple by driving out all impurities, hindrances to prayer like noise, distractions, greed, the worship of other gods. You will be surprised how much of these are going on in our churches today.

After Jesus had driven out the buyers and sellers, “The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.” (Mat. 21:14 NIV) This was made possible after all unrighteousness was removed. JESUS IS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. “Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow….. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psa. 51:7-10 NIV) We are cleansed before being purified. Why?  “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. ALL WHO HAVE THIS HOPE IN HIM PURIFY THEMSELVES, JUST AS HE IS PURE.” (1 John 3:2-3 NIV)

The people of the city (Jericho) said to Elisha, “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.” (2 Kg. 2:19) As long as the water remains bad, the land is unproductive. As long as we remain in our old ways, we remain unproductive, unresponsive to the voice of God. Elisha acted: “Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” (2 Kg. 2:19) New bowl, new creation. Salt preserves, gives flavour and distinct taste. “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive. And the water has remained pure to this day,” (2 Kg. 2:21-22 NIV)

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chron. 7:14 NIV). Again we see cleansing before healing. We must confess our sins, be willing to forgo our old ways, and be committed to a true relationship to be made whole spiritually first, and then physically. You cannot gate crash, you have to come through the door in an orderly manner. “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 Jh. 1:9 NIV) Purity after cleansing.

THE WORD: “Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” (2 Cor. 7:1 NIV)
