PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles” (Luke 6:12-13 NIV) We know that all of the disciples were from the Galilee area (Acts 1:11) - home grown. But Judas came from the town of Kerioth, which made him the only disciple from Judea (the others were from Galilee). Why is this information important? It is important because Judas Iscariot never truly blend in with the others.
Judas Iscariot was an outsider but who learned to relate as one who came from Galilee. This situation is more common among Christians if we care to look deeper. People in the church who are not from the same ethnic group and ‘fellowshipping’ on a foreign land.
The next was the intention. Judas Iscariot, somehow became the treasurer for the group. John made us know that Iscariot was comfortable playing this role because "He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it" (John 12:6). This was the highlight when Mary, the sister of Lazarus, poured expensive perfume on Jesus. This also sparked something in Judas that made him betray Jesus that same day. The question is; what did Judas Iscariot gain in the three years spent at the feet of Jesus Christ? What is your intention in following Jesus?
Judas Iscariot was there for the sermon on the mount. He witnessed all the miracles, especially repentance from sin. He was one of the twelve disciples whom Jesus gave power to preach and heal the sick. Judas also performed miracles in the name of Jesus but he never gave his life to Jesus. While Mary poured out her life for Jesus, Judas was collecting earthly wealth from the Priest. How many of us are seeking the priests instead of Jesus? How many are focused on what they can get from the church and not what they can give the body of Christ?
Are you hiding your true identity; an outsider pretending to belong? Are you a disciple or a performer? "Having a form of godliness but denying its power" (2 Timothy 3:5) - outward appearance of religion or spirituality that lacks the inward, transformative power of God. We all have the same opportunity in Christ. The way you go is totally your choice.
THE WORD: "...don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God." (James 4:4 NIV)
