PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although THEY CANNOT REPAY YOU, YOU WILL BE REPAID AT THE RESURRECTION OF THE RIGHTEOUS.” (Luke 14:12-14 NIV)
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” (Prov. 19:17 NIV)
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Mat. 6:19-20 NIV)
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?” (Isa. 58:6-7 NIV)
Today’s devotion is a reminder of our responsibilities to humanity and what we should do if we desire a heavenly treasure-filled Bank vault on arrival in the kingdom or an empty vault. “If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” (1 Cor. 3:14-15 NIV)
What does it take to have interest yielding investment in heaven? Just have selfless compassion on people who are in need - medical attention, pay off debts, assist with school fees, give food, give drinks, give clothing, counseling, prayers - all discreetly, hoping for nothing in return. “Your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Mat. 6:4) And in addition, the Father promise “Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.” (Isa. 58:8-9 NIV)
WHEN YOU ARE NOT HELPING, YOU ARE DESTROYING THE TEMPLE OF GOD. Do away with the yoke of oppression, pointing fingers, and malicious talk.
THE WORD: “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.” (1 Cor. 3:16-17 NIV)
