PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Why did Jesus ride into Jerusalem on a donkey knowing that it will draw attention to Him? The same Jesus who previously forbade some of those who benefitted from His miracles from telling! - the cleansed leper (Matthew 8:4, Mark 1:44), the two blind men (Matthew 9:30), and when charging disciples not to reveal his identity (Mark 8:30).
Is the act an act of defiance or surrender? Or simply that everything that is hidden shall be revealed? “For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.” (Luke 8:17 NIV) Why enter Jerusalem with a bang?! The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” (Mat. 21:9-10 NIV) There is something going on here. This was a huge event; probably much bigger than we ever have imagined.
Why the colt/donkey?
Is it because the donkey has a dorsal stripe - cross on back? Pointing to the Cross! Or because of the other characteristics of the donkey? Beasts of burden - Jesus carrying our loads of sin on Himself to the Cross and still bearing our burdens daily. The donkey - modest, sure-footed, and steadfast - wasn't merely a beast of burden. It was an essential companion in biblical times. In Balaam’s time, the beast became the messenger.
The act symbolized peace, service, and his role as a king coming to save humanity through sacrifice, not political or military force. (If military, He would have done it on a horse) If to secure an earthly kingdom, He would have rode to the palace. But instead, He rode to the Temple signifying His spiritual kingship. The act was also to fulfil the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9. For we know that prophecy not fulfilled is not from God (Deut 18:22) His rule is not by force but willingness of the heart of man.
THE WORD: I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.” (Zech. 9:10 NIV)
