PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

There is something that quickly separates anyone from God, it is wealth and comfort. I can hear Moses say to the Israelites; “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” (Deut. 8:11-14 NIV) The end result is destruction. “If you ever forget the Lord your God………….you will surely be destroyed.” (Deut. 8:19)
The Rich man and Lazarus were neighbors on earth. But when they died, they were separated by a big and wide gulf. The Rich man was in Hades and Lazarus, the poor man was co-tenant with father Abraham. When the Rich man looked and saw Lazarus, this conversation happened: “Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.” (Luke 16:24-25 NIV) This translates that if thorns in our flesh (Lazarus received bad things) keep us glued to God - dependence on God - and guarantees eternity with Christ, then SUFFERING, here on earth, IS GOOD. King Solomon was also a victim of too much wealth.
To emphasize how evil self-sufficiency is, the Rich man requested that Abraham send Lazarus to his siblings in the hope that Lazarus' new life may shock them to seek God. “Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.” (Luke 16:27-28 NIV) But it was already late. Do not ignore the warning now while you still have the opportunity.
‘May you never be independent of God’ is a prayer for blessing, asking that God keeps us close enough to Him that we rely on Him for every breath and decision, for our good and His glory. Release control of your life to God.
THE WORD: “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal. He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground and casts it down to the dust.” (Isa. 26:4-5 NIV
