PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Throughout the Bible, cups serve as symbols of both blessing and judgment. They represent the abundance of God's provision and the severity of His justice. For example, in Psalm 23:5-6, we read - “You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,.....” And in Psalm 75:8 we read - In the hand of the Lord is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs. (NIV) So, it is either you drink from God’s cup of goodness - abundance goodness - or you drink from God's cup of wrath with certainty that all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its dregs. Who are the wicked of the earth? The wicked of the earth are sinners. Before you exempt yourself, hear this; “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Rom. 3:23 NIV)
Recall that God specifically designed some temple utensils for the use of His glory. These utensils were made of pure gold exclusively for use in the temple. Among these utensils were cups designed for specific uses (Exo. 25:29-34). And when Belshazzar, King of Babylon, commanded that these gold vessels, taken from the temple in Jerusalem be brought out for use to praise their gods, they witnessed God’s fury and Belshazzar did not live another day (Dan. 5:1-30)
Until your cup is full - of God’s goodness or of God’s foaming wine of judgement? There is one thing certain that we know about God; He deals with us with unexplainable patience. He constantly warns us of the consequences of our actions and or inactions.
But glory be to God for His extraordinary provision to escape His wrath. For Jesus drank this cup of the Lord’s wrath. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prays, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39). This is confirmed by Isaiah; This is what your Sovereign Lord says, your God, who defends his people: “See, I have taken out of your hand the cup that made you stagger;
from that cup, the goblet of my wrath, you will never drink again. I will put it into the hands of your tormentors, who said to you, ‘Fall prostrate that we may walk on you…..” (Isa. 51:22-23 IV)
So, there is only one cup left for you and I and that is the cup of his goodness and mercy if we are willing to follow Jesus Christ who drank the dregs on our behalf or reject Him and drink from the cup of God’s wrath. Whichever way, no one can avoid God. Eventually we will run into Him.
THE WORD: “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil. 2:10-11 NIV)
