PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Many Christians still believe that it is not only the born again Christians that will make heaven. They argue that those who worked tirelessly in the name of God, irrespective of their religion will make heaven. That God is not a wicked God that will send many souls to hell just because they are not born again. They also believe that anyone without crime like murder or who never destroys another person will make heaven. People try to justify why they should make heaven except what God says.
Let us revisit John 3:1-21 which was about Nichodemus’ night visit to Jesus. Nichodemus was a sanhendrin, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He was one of the teachers of the Law of Moses and up until his visit, believed that his deeds were his ticket to eternal life. Notice that he was actually greeting Jesus, appreciating as well as confirming that Jesus came from God. “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” (JH. 3:2 NIV). Jesus' reply to Nichodemus’ greeting seemed off and not the kind that was in response to the greeting. Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” John 3:3 NIV) Why?
The sanhendrin, the Pharisees, the scribes, all are the custodians of the law. Their existence, deeds, beliefs, was rooted in obeying the law. Jesus’ response must have shocked Nichodemus and rightly so too, if only to make him pay serious attention to Jesus. Good deeds, keeping the law, presenting a good performance for the world’s applause cannot take anyone to heaven. All our deeds are corrupted. No one does good; absolutely no one (Psa. 14:3). Therefore, ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD (Rom. 3:23). All the men and women under the sky cannot spend eternity with God under this condition. We were conceived in sin (Psa 51). Our good works are laden in selfishness and wickedness is our constant companion.
God being such a loving, compassionate Father, made every soul under the sky an offer, a gift, something none of us worked for, a ticket fully paid for to have a seat in His presence in eternity. This gift is without prejudice. It is free and available to every soul who believes, who stretches out to accept it, irrespective of religion, class, nationality, or colour. That gift is John 3:16. It's like somebody paid for all your needs at the grocery store without your asking. JESUS CHRIST SETTLED THE DEBTS. He paid for sin on the cross. Accept this fact and you get your free ticket to eternal life.
The night visit was under cover of darkness. The world hates light because it reveals evil deeds (Jh. 3:20). Nichodemus received light. THE KEY IS TO LIVE BY THE TRUTH. (Jh. 3:21) JESUS IS THE TRUTH.
THE WORD: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV)
