“THE SAYING WAS HIDDEN FROM THEM.” - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
Mar. 23rd, 2026.

"But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken." (Luk.18.34.NKJV)
How often have you read a bible passage or heard it read but you could not comprehend it. And sometimes later, when you come across the same passage, you see it clearly and you are exited? The reasons may be:
1. You may be absent minded
2. You may have to study more to grow understanding.
3. You may need somebody to explain it to you.
4. You need the Holy Spirit for knowledge, understanding and wisdom.
5. You may need to show more commitment to study the Bible
6. The meaning may be hidden because the time is not right for you to handle that truth.
7. You may need to ask questions to dig deeper.

Growing in the Word of God is step by step and it is progressive. "In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."
(Heb.5.12-14.NIV)

After the disciples, along with the crowd, heard the parable of the sower, they had to call the Lord’s attention behind the scene for better understanding.
"The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them." (Mat.13.10-11.NIV) You have to study to become a member of the inner circle of Christ for better understanding of the Word. Because the word is spirit and it is life (Jh. 6:63). Follow Jesus closely.

God can hide the meaning of the word to humble the prideful and arrogant for when the events actually happen and hiding the meaning would emphasis the significance of our need for Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

THE WORD: "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
(Heb.4.12.NIV)
