PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Are you on the inside or on the outside? A tax collector or a Pharisee? The Prodigal Son or his elder brother? Do you have a relationship or a religion? Do you know Jesus Christ or your G.O, Bishop, Pastor? Do you operate on Grace or the Law? Are you real or just performing?
“To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.” (Luke 18:9-10 NIV) In the eyes of the law, the Pharisee did everything right (fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get) but the tax collector, who was also a Jew, did everything wrong. In the eyes of the people, the Pharisee was more righteous. “The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Sam. 16:7 NIV)
The Pharisee recounted all his works while the tax collector had no good works to show but only his weaknesses - beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
THE VEDICT: “I tell you that this man, (tax collector), rather than the other, (the Pharisee), went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” For it is not by our effort but Grace alone - “Not by power or might” (Zech. 4:6)
The father of the Prodigal son ran to meet him and welcomed him home. This was after the young man collected and squandered his inheritance. The elder brother, who had always been at home, was upset and stood outside. The father went out to meet him too and explained the reason for the celebration of the return of the younger brother. He failed to see himself as the heir but as the victim (Luke 15:11-32).
Have you spent all your life serving the church and now the younger generations are coming up and your position seems threatened? Your feeling of low-self-worth is rising to the surface and you plan to disappear or sabotage progress? You may never have been on the inside. God does not take pleasure in the death of sinners but that all His children should come home (Ezek. 18:23)
THE WORD: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (1 Cor. 13:4-7 NIV)
