WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE? - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

April 1st, 2026.

Who is on the Lord’s side? This was the question Moses asked the people after he found them already worshipping an idol - the golden calf (Exo. 32:25-29). The excuse was that Moses was long gone and the waiting for him was uncomfortable. So, instead of waiting, the people decided to make an idol for themselves. We need to pay attention here; who led the people to worship the idol? It was Aaron, the high priest. Let that sink deep and sit with us for a while. We need to apply it to who or what we worship today. Should the man of God fall under the pressure of the people to lead them astray from God? Be vigilant!

Only the Levites stood out for the Lord and Moses commanded them to take up their swords and kill the people, even their own children who failed to keep faith. Three thousand people lost their lives that day. It didn’t stop there, “Then the Lord sent a great plague upon the people because they had worshiped the calf Aaron had made.” (Exo. 32:35 NLT) Who is on the Lord’s side?

There was another incident when Joshua was near Jericho and looked up to see a man standing in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked; ‘Are you for us or against us?’ (Josh. 5:13) “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” (Josh. 5:14 NIV) Joshua wanted to know whose side the angel of God was. But the angel replied; “Neither.” This implies that GOD DOES NOT TAKE SIDES; GOD TAKES OVER. God does not share His glory with anyone.

Basically, the commander of the army of the Lord is saying: “Don’t think I’m here because I’m on your side. I’m here because God is calling you to do His work. And in this case, in this instance, this is His work. God is in absolute control of His plan, His work. God will send His heavenly army to the camp of whosoever obeys Him.

But it’s not about ‘sides. No, it isn’t. It is about God’s redemptive plan, God’s movement throughout all of history is to call human beings into relationship – ultimately through Jesus Christ… that is God’s side. Whoever takes Jesus Christ, Jew or Gentle, is on God’s side because Jesus Christ is the right side of the Father.

THE WORD:  “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” (Rom. 8:34 NIV)
