PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Many of us have read this part of the scriptures without paying much attention. And why should we pay attention? We are not like the devil. We are not evil in any way. We were born into Christian families and have worshipped and served God all our lives. We are God’s children. We try to justify ourselves. Hmm! These were the thoughts of the Jewish religious leaders too and their claim of superiority when Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Jh. 8:31-32 NIV) {But all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. No one is good.}
The religious leaders took a stand like many today: “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?” “Our father is Abraham!” they declared. “We aren’t illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father.” Jh. 8:33,39,41 NIV)
“No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, (If you are real Christians, you will follow Christ) you would follow his example. Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. No, you are imitating your real father.” (Jh. 8:39-41 NIV)
What is the character of their real father? Murderer, liar, trouble seeking, arrogance, hate, envy, all things and everything that opposes God. Any deed that opposes the Truth, cannot be from God but from the devil. When you lie in court, or against your neighbour, or your colleague, or to your spouse, the government, you are wearing the devil’s robe. When you cheat and you think you are smart, you are wearing the devil’s robe. When you think of murderous acts, you are wearing the devil’s robe. When you soak yourself in the deeds listed in Galatians 5:19-21, you are wearing the devil’s robe. Therefore, “you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (Jh. 8:44 NIV)
The Bible says obedience, love, and truthfulness are marks of a true child of God: “So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God” (1 John 3:10, NLT).
