PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.” “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” (Luke 21:6-7 NIV)
The Romans finally captured the Temple Mount and destroyed the Second Temple around 70 A.D. about forty years after the death of Jesus. Evidence that our focus should not be on things of the world, things built by human hands, or signs that will warn us of what is about to happen. These things will only cloud our judgment and if care is not taken, we may miss the important thing. “They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.” Psa. 102:26 NIV) “....but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Mat. 10:28) Jesus further added "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah" (Matthew 12:39, 16:4).
Why is this discussion necessary? Because people are so focused now on signs and predictions of the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. For many years many focused on this and their predictions failed. Now, with the war in Iran, the frenzy is in full gear. We are ignoring what is important - BE READY because He comes like a thief in the night - for something Jesus told us He does not know and not even the angels know the day or the hour of the end time (Mat. 24:36). Paul desired to see the day; but Paul is long gone (1 Thes. 4:15-17) and we are still expecting…..
Jesus told us this - the assurance that we need - “You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.” (Luke 21:16-19 NIV) Betrayal, persecution, imprisonment, death, hatred, these are things that affect believers. But in it all, Jesus guarantees that not one hair of your head will perish. How can one be killed and still not lose even a hair? Preservation is not on earth but with Him in heaven. Stephen is proof (Acts 7:55-57). Therefore, be ready for when the Lord will come for you or me like a thief in the night. (Some have the privilege to know that death is near but still do not know the exact moment. While for many, it comes without any notification.) BE READY.
THE WORD: “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” (Eph. 6:13 NIV)
