PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
Mar. 22nd, 2026.
“Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (Exo. 14:14 NKJV)
What does it mean - to hold your peace?
First, we are talking about the peace not as the world gives but peace that passes all human understanding (John 14:27). The kind of peace that ONLY Jesus Christ can give. Second, this peace is developed through faith trusting absolutely in the word of God. To hold your peace means to be still, calm, no fear, no fret, no anxiety, even in the face of danger and see what the Lord will do.
But how can one stay calm in troubled waters? How can you stay calm when you have bills to settle but no money? How can you stay at peace when your enemies are raging? How can you maintain the balance when you are between the devil and the red sea?
Jesus' standard is the answer. “Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But JESUS WAS SLEEPING.” (Mat.8:23-24 NIV) The furious waves came before Jesus slept. In peace, the battle victory is not at the end of the battle, or war, storm, fire or whatever it is. The victory, in peace that passes all understanding, is at the beginning of the battle. Why? Because if you trust the Lord enough, He has gone ahead of you to settle the score. You just go in to cart away the spoils. Jesus was able to sleep in the furious storm because He held on to His peace - total assurance that He has authority over it. We also do if we believe it.
“The LORD your God who goes before you will Himself fight on your behalf…” (Deut 1:30) “I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron.” (Isa. 45:2) “The Lord will fight for you, you just hold your peace.” (Exo. 14:14) The conclusion is if God be for me, who can be against me? (Rom. 8:31)
Hezekiah got victory before the battle (Isa. 37-41) The Israelites at the red sea got victorious even before they crossed the sea to the other side (Exo. 14-15) Likewise David. These all could, like Jesus, have slept while God fought their battles. You have the same grace in Christ Jesus.
The enemy wants you anxious; God wants you anchored. The Red Sea that looked like their grave became their escape route. When god fights your battle, the enemy vanishes. Perfect peace comes when the battle begins when you trust God completely.
THE WORD: Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God; (Psa. 46:8-10 NIV)
