PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
April 13th, 2026.
They (Barnabas and Saul) traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish SORCERER AND FALSE PROPHET named Bar-Jesus, who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer………..opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.” Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.” (Acts 13:6-12)
We first noticed the workers of magic in Egypt called “sorcerers” and “magicians” (Exodus 7:11, 22) “Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs” (Exodus 7:10–12). The fact that the Egyptian snakes were eaten by Aaron’s snake shows that the power of God is greater than whatever power the pagan magicians were tapping in to. Later, the magicians were unable to perform other miracles that followed. Magic power is temporary and limited. It wears off before it can take root.
Miracles and magic sometimes look the same, but their goals are different. Magic and illusion distract the eye from reality, while miracles draw the eye to reality. Miracles reveal; magic hides. Miracles are an expression of creative power; magic uses what already exists. Miracles are a gift; magic is a studied skill. Miracles do not glorify men; magic seeks to be noticed and bring glory to the magician.
The truth is, magic has entered the church. Many people are experiencing magic and calling it a miracle. How do you spot the difference? Those who run after miracles will become victims of magic. A believer in Christ Jesus does not run after miracles but after the miracle worker. Stay focused on Jesus and He will perform. Stay focused on miracles and you will get counterfeit. Remember this, the heart of man (prophet or no prophet, pastor or no pastor) is desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9) JESUS is the only TRUTH.
THE WORD: Jesus told His enemies, “Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father” (John 10:37–38).
