PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
April 26th, 2026.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” (John 15:16 NIV) Does this mean predestination according to (Rom. 8:30) and especially if read alongside Jeremiah 1:5? “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” But on arrival in this world, we have a choice, to obey or disobey God. And this gives every soul the control of his/her life. For those who choose to obey, then Ephesians 1:5 applies: “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” It is Jesus Christ that was predestinated.
How do we bear fruit that lasts?
First, we need to read John 15:9-17. The procedure is listed in these verses and based on the fact that we have come to Jesus Christ willingly. “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” (John 15:9)
We must remain in His love. How?
By obeying His commandments
When we obey His commandments, Jesus’ joy will be in us.
If His joy is in us, that means He delights in us. The immediate benefit to us is that our joy will be complete - the source of our peace.
What is the command that we need to obey? “LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU.” (John 15:12)
Why? Because Jesus, Himself paid a great price for us to become His friends. Having come to Him, we too have the ability and capacity to love like He does. (John 15:15)
We bear fruit that lasts, that endures. Galatians 5:22-23
The ultimate reward: “...and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” Then you can say to the mountain (obstacles) be moved and it will obey. (Mark 11:8)
THE WORD: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 NIV)
