FORGIVENESS! - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

April 16th, 2026.

“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you,  leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.” (Mat. 5:23-24 NIV) (Give and Receive)

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Mat. 6:14-15 NIV)(Give and Receive)

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Mat. 18:21-22 NIV)(Give more and Receive more)

“Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” Mat. 18:32-35 NIV)(Cannot receive what you have not given)

Why do we need to forgive? Why is forgiveness so important? Why should we forgive as well as receive forgiveness? “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38 NIV)

The key needed to unlock the answer may be in the question Jesus asked: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?” (Luke 6:39 NIV) There are two natures of God directly tied to forgiveness - LOVE and PEACE. Forgiveness is Love and receiving forgiveness is peace. God is love. Whoever does not love does not know God. (1 John 4:8) For God Himself is our peace (Eph. 2:14)

THE WORD: “If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.” (1 John 1:6 NIV)
