PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Three times Daniel was told that he is a man greatly beloved not by mortal men but by an angel sent to him by God - angel Gabriel. The Good News Translation puts it like this: “Daniel, God loves you.” The New International Version wrote: "Daniel, you who are highly esteemed” (Dan. 9:23; 10:11; 10:19) Why was Daniel highly rated by God? This is close to perfection! Where are we on the scale?


  • From his very youth Daniel feared God. He was carried away to Babylon, as captive at the same time that the holy vessels were taken from the temple of Jerusalem. He was himself one of the holy vessels. For he was indeed a vessel fit for the Master’s use.

  • Daniel was determined in his early years to non-conformity to the world. He was placed in circumstances that removed him from every godly association. He was carried into an idolatrous country, and trained in an idolatrous court for a superstitious pursuit. Everything was done that could be done to make the young Hebrew forget the God of his fathers. His name was changed as well as those of the three right worthy companions of his captivity, to forget that they were Jews and forget the name of God himself! Everywhere around them they saw idolatry, lust, and crime. “Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”

  • Daniel was fearless when he interpreted the dream and told Nebuchadnezzar that he would be insane and that his hair would grow like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws, and that he would be driven from the abodes of men. He was courageous to interpret the hand writing on the wall in spite of the danger of telling Belshazzar, the king, that he would die that night. In both cases, he could have been executed. 

  • Addressing the King of Tyre, Ezekiel said, “Art thou wiser than Daniel?” Now, for a young man to be elevated to 3rd position in the Empire, we all know the dangers that come with wealth and at a young age. Yet, when the noble men plotted against him, they found him above board. There is more we can learn from Daniel. His prayer life. He stood firm in the face of danger - not choosing himself but faith in God.


THE WORD: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Rev. 12:11 NKJV)
