GOD HONOURS THOSE WHO HONOUR HIM. - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

May 5th, 2026.

It is absolutely dangerous to be on the wrong side of God. As much as God is a long suffering, compassionate, loving, merciful God, you do not want to attract His anger not even for a split second. This is what He says to Eli: “Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’ “Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.” (1 Sam. 2:29-30 NIV) Leaders hear, hear! Corrupt offerings, stealing from the offerings and denying the poor among you.

God honours those who honour Him means He honours those who respect, obey, and put Him first in their lives. These people receive divine blessing, favor, and recognition from Him. This principle, a key to divine elevation, means God lifts up, protects, and rewards those who serve Him. Nebuchadnezzar already ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon and this included Daniel and his friends. It was during this commotion that Daniel approached the commander of the king’s guard to find out more. Daniel then applied the principle of Proverbs 3:5-6. God revealed the dream and Daniel told the king. Daniel was greatly honored because he, Daniel, first honoured the Most High God.

How do we dishonour God? We dishonour God by living in disobedience to His word, misrepresenting His character, and treating His grace with apathy. Specific actions include habitual sin, pride, idolatry, abusing power, using our speech for gossip or falsehoods, and failing to use our talents/resources for good. You may want to read (Ps. 50:7-23; Isa 58; Malachi 1:6-14) Leaders are the most guilty of dishonouring God. “A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a Father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the Lord Almighty. “It is you priests who show contempt for my name….” (Malachi 1:6 NIV) From Eli to today’s leaders.

Jesus says: "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven" (Mat. 10:33 NKJ)(Luke 12:9 and 2 Timothy 2:12), emphasizing that publicly disowning Christ results in being disowned by Him - disobedience. To be disowned by Christ is an everlasting death sentence. “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” (Mat. 15:8-9 NIV) “Whoever does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who sent Him.” (John 5:23)

THE WORD: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Rev. 4:11 NIV)
