PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Nebuchadnezzar the king was once the most powerful king in the world. He made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. He then sent word to gather together all the who-is-who in his kingdom and commanded them that “at the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image.” (Dan. 3:1-6)


God refers to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon as "My servant" specifically in Jeremiah 25:9, Jeremiah 27:6, and Jeremiah 43:10). Calling him a servant demonstrates God’s supreme authority, showing that He controls history and uses even non-believing rulers to accomplish His divine purposes. So, it is either king Nebuchadnezzar did not know that he was in power because God made it so or he knew but pride ruled his judgement. Either way, he, Nebuchadnezzar challenged God when he said; “But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And WHO IS THE GOD WHO WILL DELIVER YOU FROM MY HANDS?” (Dan. 3:15b NKJV) The king was by now addressing Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego - the three Jews who refused to bow down and worship the gold image.


Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego the boys he gave preferential treatment, the boys that ate at his table, the boys he gave high ranks in his kingdom. You can imagine his rage. Then he commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. 


Nebuchadnezzar’s second error was heating the furnace seven times. Seven is the number of perfection. Heating the furnace seven times is God’s purification (Psa. 12:6). Nebuchadnezzar was unknowingly purifying the boys in the furnace and in so doing, invited the 4th Man - the Word of God Himself.


There are so many powerful people in the world today who are doing all in their power to erase Christians. The truth is, Christians even in our rotten state, still represent the light in this world of darkness because we confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. And unknowingly belittle the powers of darkness hence the hatred. And just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, we have the 4th man with us always. So, stand up, stand firm, stand in Christ’s strength alone, believe that NO WEAPON formed against you shall prosper. Do not deny Jesus Christ. He is above all the rulers of this world (Col. 1:15-20) By standing up, you convince and convert even the hard-hearted.


THE WORD: Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.” (Dan. 3:28-29 NKJV)
