PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” (Mat. 18:1-5 NIV)
Now, Jesus was addressing adults who in all ramifications are parents or to be parents. And He said “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” It is like Jesus saying, “unless you are born again you cannot see the kingdom of heaven.” (John 3:3) We have two sets of conditions here. 1) Unless you are born again, you cannot SEE the kingdom of heaven and 2) Unless you become like little children, you will not ENTER the kingdom of heaven.
How can we become little children? And mind you, little children are not so little when you truly see through them - their mischievous, manipulative, and blackmail attitude. But there are some things about little children - they look the adults in the eyes when instructed. They copy the adults trying to do exactly like they do. They take the adults' words on face value without questions. They simply trust. (Psalm 123:2, which depicts servants looking to their master for direction and mercy). Similar themes of trust, dependence, and honor appear in verses like Ephesians 5:1 (imitating God as dear children) and Malachi 1:6 (a son honoring his father). So, Jesus is telling us to take the lowly position, humble ourselves like the child. Trust Him completely.
We are encouraged to take back what we lost in the cause of growing up. The adults lost humility and put on the borrowed garment of PRIDE. Humility is a fruit of the spirit - gentleness or meekness. We enter into the kingdom of heaven through the gate of Grace - total dependency on God’s provision, nothing we can boast of. Pride is boastful. Pride is self. Pride is not submissive. Pride is taking what is not rightfully yours.
So, who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? The one with a gentle and lowly heart.” Jesus said; “Take My yoke upon you and LEARN FROM ME, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.: (Mat. 11:29)
THE WORD: “ Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” (1 Pet. 3:4 NIV)
