MAN’S INSATIABLE DESIRE TO OUT-DO GOD! - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

June 14th, 2026.

God knows the number of hairs on our heads! (Luke 12:7) God measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, He held the dust of the earth in a basket, weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance. (Isa. 40:12) Have you ever thought of how incomprehensible it is to count the hairs on your head? Who can measure the waters in the hollow of the hand? This extremely incomprehensive power of God, I thought, is probably why man is insatiable in his search to find out the source of God’s power and if possible to out-do Him.

It could have engineered the building of the Tower of Babel and in frustration turned into the immoral act of Sodom and Gomorrah and today into Artificial intelligence and still we come up short. Man is really frustrated without knowing why? Those who gave up, surrendered to Him and those who refused to acknowledge Him remain unhappy because God confused their language - their intelligence (Gen. 11:7) “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Mat. 5:6)

A man in India tried to count his hair. It took him five days and that was after he shaved his head. He concluded he has 91,300. Scientists agreed by a formula that the hair on the head is between 100,000 and 150,000 depending on race and colour of hair. God does not need to blink to give us, and accurately too, the number of hair on our heads. ‘Medical advancements, artificial intelligence, and genetic engineering are often viewed as modern attempts to circumvent natural limits, essentially "playing God" by controlling life, death, and human biology.’ Philosophers and theologians alike note that this insatiable drive often stems from a fallen nature or an innate human longing for fulfillment, peace, and transcendence OUTSIDE OF DIVINE ORDER.

Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding? Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;” (Isa, 40:14-15) “With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him?” (Isa. 40:18)

No man can recover from challenging God unless we go back to Him. Is God wicked or cruel? Neither. He is just God, the Almighty!!! The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.” (Eccl. 1:5) This should tell us something - go back to the beginning - go back to the source of your breath.

THE WORD: “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” (Gal. 5:16-17 NIV)
