PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Eph. 6:12 NKJV)
If fighting is not against the person/s we see physically, who are we fighting with?
The wiles of the devil. We are encouraged to; “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Eph. 6:11 NKJV)
What are the wiles of the devil? The clever, deceptive strategies Satan uses to tempt, divide, and distract believers. He sows confusion, discouragement, and discord among people.
James asks: “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the evil (Satan’s) desires that battle within you?” (James 4:1)
During Jesus’ sermon on the Mount, He taught us not to fight. “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.” (Mat. 5:39-42 NKJV) Instead of fighting, Jesus says: “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven….” (Mat. 5:44-45)
So, why are we not supposed to fight? Because God says; “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay.” (Rom. 12:17-19 NIV)
When you fight, you disobey God and disobedience has consequences. The consequences may be worse than fighting the supposed ‘enemy’.
Not fighting teaches us endurance, patience, perseverance, and humility. These are the fruit of the spirit. It is PEACE.
Do not fight your spouse, neighbour, family, friends, colleagues. Do not fight at home, in the market, at gatherings. Do not embarrass yourself and do not disappoint God.
If there is a need for you to fight, apply Proverbs 3:5-6 and be like David. Let God, who is Spirit, lead you to fight the powers that you do not see. (2 Chron. 20:15)
THE WORD: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom. 12:20-21 NIV)
