PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
June 19th, 2026.
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” (1 Cor. 13:1-3 NIV)
I recommend that we read those first three verses of 1 Corinthians 13 again and again. It will speak to us and then link it with Matthew 7:21-23.
Then, Jesus says: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!” (Mat. 7:21-23 NIV) What is the will of the Father? Love God and love others. LOVE is the main key that turns the door knob to eternal life. Why love? Love gives us recognition. It gives us real identity in Christ Jesus.
All other gifts can be performed; love cannot be performed. Balaam was a Mesopotamian diviner and prophet for hire. God still gave him a message and the direction he should go with Balak the king of the Moabites (Num. 22-24). The Witch of Endor still performed for Saul even though she was a medium or sorceress (1 Sam. 28). The girl who followed Paul in Acts 16:16-17 prophesied correctly without love. But she had no ticket to eternal life.
Jesus says: “Many will say to me…….did we not prophesy in your name?” These are people in the church. Peter has this to say: “For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1 Pet. 4:17 NIV)
So, why LOVE? God is Love. Love is a seed that takes its root from the “love-soil-of-God.” When properly planted, it grows and produces other beautiful and compassionate fruit. And it is on this foundation that we can genuinely give without boasting. We act without asking anything in return because LOVE is sacrifice. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13) Love must cost you something very valuable. Love grows and cannot be extinguished. All other gifts can be performed like paid jobs like religious acts or superficial faith without true relationship with God.
THE WORD: “Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” (1 Cor. 13:8 NIV)
