PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.” (2 Cor. 13:1 NKJV) “A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses” (Deut. 19:15 NIV)
Jesus leads the three disciples up a high mountain, where he is transfigured. Moses and Elijah appear, and God's voice speaks from a cloud saying, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him". (Mat. 17:1-8) Why Moses and Elijah? Moses was dead and God Himself buried him. "So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor; but no man knows his burial place to this day." (Deut. 34:5-6) Did God bring him back from the dead to testify? What is the connection? Elijah was a prophet and there were many more major prophets in the Old Testament. Is it because he never died?
Jesus actually answered these questions and more when He said: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them". (Mat. 5:17) He said the LAW OR THE PROPHETS not the Law and the prophets. Therefore, the appearance of Moses and Elijah represent the LAW AND THE PROPHETS. They were witnesses that the entire Old Testament pointed to Jesus Christ. It also throws light on why Jesus did not abolish (Law or the prophets) the very WORD that established His authenticity.
There is another thread. Moses received the Law on the Mount - Mount Sinai (Exo. 31:18) It was on Mount Carmel that Elijah called down fire from heaven - evidence of the true and living God (1 Kings 18:38) And at the transfiguration, all three meet on an unnamed high Mountain. God is a God of details. Moses was entirely human, father, mother, siblings and he died. Elijah appeared human from Tishbe in Gilead but was divinely escorted out of the world. Jesus was fully man and fully divine - the combination of the two. When you put the Law and the Prophets together, you have Jesus.
On a similar note, was John the Baptist Elijah? Malachi wrote; “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you….” (Mal.4:5) They both lived in the wilderness, similar dressing and both were very bold - confronting kings. But John the Baptist was not Elijah. He fulfilled Old Testament prophecies by operating in the "spirit and power of Elijah". (Luke 1:17)
THE WORD: “ For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.” (2 Pet. 1:16-18 NIV)
