PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

"But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression." (Psa. 19:12-13 NIV))
David in this psalm, breaks sin down into two categories: hidden faults (sins committed out of ignorance or blindness) and presumptuous sins (deliberate or willful rebellion against God). He identifies distinct ways people fail, showing that sin is much deeper than we usually think. Have you ever wondered what you said or did that someone is holding against you? It is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, for us to fully see or recognize our own faults, mistakes, and hidden flaws. We all see ourselves as good or near perfect. Maybe this is why it is written: “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” (Mat. 7:3-5 NKJV) We can break Psalm 19:23-24 into three categories of sins - “errors,” “hidden faults,” and “presumptuous sins.
But, as David thinks of his errors, he is made aware that there are other sins in his life that he previously didn’t even know about. These are the “hidden faults”—those secret sins that we do not even realize we committed. None of us know God’s Word well enough to know every way that we can break His Law; all of us have broken His Law at times without being aware of it. So as we name our sins in confession, we should also ask God to forgive those sins that are “hidden faults.” Sins that we are totally ignorant of. (there are ways we look, speak, walk, dress, think, that may qualify as “hidden faults”) Jesus said: "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart". (Mat 5:28)
The “presumptuous sins.” are the worst of all! These are not errors; these are not mistakes; these are not accidents. These are the kinds of sins where we decide beforehand that we know it is wrong but we are going to do it anyway. These are the premeditated sins, which we inherently know should draw a harsher punishment. Most of all, we must ask God to “keep back your servant” from these horrible sins
The good news is God can and God will keep us from sin. Not only has God given us His Holy Spirit to dwell inside of us and guard us from the power of the evil one. Not only has God given us power to resist every temptation, and the scriptures instructing us on how to do what is right. But God has also sent His Son to die in our place as “our rock and redeemer.” SEE, A LIFE WITHOUT CHRIST IS A LIFE OF CRISIS.
THE WORD: "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." (Psa. 139:23-24 KJV)
