PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God,....” (Psa. 55:12-14 NIV)
We are often the architects of our pains. We knowingly or unknowingly provide the enemies the ammunition for our downfall. We usually do so through careless compromises or unguarded actions. This self-sabotage often happens when we trade our integrity for temporary comfort, allow bitterness to take root, or fail to set healthy boundaries.
There are people we call friends and or family who have in them the spirit of jealousy, envy, and greed. And because of our ‘closeness’ we often open up to them about our achievements and generosity. Some people are genuinely happy but others store the information only to use it later to make demands. You are left confused and miserable especially if you are unable to meet their expectations. Over-sharing: (Revealing too much personal or strategic information) Compromising Integrity: ("harmless" ethical exceptions). Revenge Seeking: (Trying to get even often blinds us) Ignoring Red Flags: (trusting individuals who have consistently shown they cannot be relied upon)
SOLUTION:
"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." (James 1:9) "Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues." (Prov. 17:28)
We talk too much and show too much because we want the world to see our successes and sometimes out of spite. Allow the seed you have planted to announce itself. Do not tell the world what produce it is. Let them assume whatever they want. They will find out in due time. Your secret is only safe with you. Once it is shared, it is no longer a secret and it can be used against you. Be certain who your friends are before you share.
Joseph shared his dreams with his brothers and ended up a slave in Egypt. Jacob stole Esau’s blessing because Rebekah heard Isaac spoke his intention to Esau. Hezekiah showed his visitors from Babylon all his treasures and the Lord told him through Isaiah that a day is coming when the KIng of Babylon will take all his treasures away (2 Kings 20:12-19)
It is better to be alone and at peace than among ‘friends’ and be miserable. Make Jesus Christ your confidant.
