PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“At that time THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN WILL BE LIKE ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.” (mat. 25:1 NIV)
“The foolish ones took their lamps BUT DID NOT TAKE ANY OIL with them.” (vs. 3)
“The bridegroom was a long time in coming.” (vs.5) Nobody knows the day or hour that the Son of Man will appear (Mat. 24:36)
“The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.” (vs. 8) Immediately, there is a sense of lack of adequate preparation. The question is why?
In ancient Israel, part of the marriage tradition was that the bridegroom and his friends arrive in the night but nobody knows what time this would be. So, the virgins, carrying lamps, usually friends of the bride, were saddled with the responsibility to lead the bridegroom possession immediately they heard the sound of his arrival. The essence is to provide visibility so that no one stumbles. "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven". (Mat. 5:14-16)
What are the consequences of their action? (1) The possession could be delayed - added to the bridegroom delay. A timeline that is unpredictable because of the wedding rituals. (2) The friends of the groom may have stumbled - a disappointment/shame of the bride's family. (3) The five wise virgins were stretched to their limit. In the eyes of the gospel, the action of the five foolish virgins is deadly to souls. They were in darkness and they are putting many souls in darkness too and this is not because they do not know the right thing to do. "A servant who knows what the master wants, but isn't prepared and doesn't carry out those instructions, will be severely punished." (Luke 12:47 NLT)
The marriage of the Lamb is in progress, a grand, eternal celebration uniting Jesus Christ (the "Lamb") with his Church (the "Bride") (Rev. 19:6-9) . We need to be ready if we do not want to be locked out. The trumpet could sound anytime - “He comes like a thief in the night.” Just like the marriage tradition in ancient times, you do not expect the bridegroom to open the door when his marriage is being consummated!?
Do you have enough oil in you to give you enough light as well as provide light for other souls? We need to lead more people into the banquet hall. Do not be left behind.
