WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO HEAR FROM GOD. - KBA Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Aug. 13th, 2026.

First let us remind ourselves of the works of the Holy Spirit:  “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you ALL things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26 NIV) “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.” (1 Cor. 12:4-11) “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” (Rom. 8:26 NIV) He is the Spirit of REVELATION.

Jesus’ example: "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."  (Mark 1:35)  “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16)

  • Prayer is not a monologue. It is a conversation and it requires that while you talk, you must also cultivate the act of listening. In order to achieve this, prayer should not be timed. You wait until you have time enough to be in the presence of God. You need to make time when you will not be disturbed, when your focus is on nothing else but Him. Thank God that His doors are wide open 24/7.

  • You must remove every gadget of distraction - smartphones, laptops, notifications etc. You are in the presence of the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Give God the honour He deserves. You cannot hear God where there is noise. He comes through in our silence - evidence of our readiness to hear Him. God spoke to Elijah in a still small voice, hardly audible and if he was not focused, he would have missed it. "And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice." (1 Kings 19:11-13)

  • You must know your Bible. The written word in the Bible is God’s only language. You need to learn His language to hear and understand Him when He speaks to you. Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit will only speak of what He heard from Him - The Word (John 16:13)

  • When you need help, or clarification, you take it to God first, not to social media and or friends and relatives. Let the seed announce itself in due time. Take it to God first, leave it with Him, wait and He will come through (Prov. 3:5-6)

  • God speaks to us in many different ways. With time, you will know this. Usually, there is an impression in your spirit, a thought that you may dismiss as your thought, (listen, it will be repeated) do not ignore it. Obedience is key to more messages/answers/guidance from God. He comes through in hymns or Bible verses or through conversation with a neutral person, in dreams and visions too. The secret is your inner ability to seek Him and to listen.

Relax and allow God to lead you through the Holy Spirit. Remember that He knows your thoughts before you open your mouth. Remember also that He will not share His glory with any man.

THE WORD: "But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul." (Deut. 4:29)
