WHO DO PEOPLE SAY THE SON OF MAN IS? - KBA Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Aug. 2nd, 2026.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Mat.16.13-16.NIV)

Why did Jesus ask these questions? First, general public knowledge of Him and second, the immediate and closest circle - family knowledge of Him. Jesus knows who He is and this is obvious in the way He asked the questions "the Son of Man" and "I am." Maybe He asked to know if the people really understand that. Or to clarify if He presented Himself as He is. We also can ask the same questions and try to find answers ourselves or take the search beyond if we can find the truth.

● Who was I before Christ?

● Who am I in Christ?

● Who do people say I am?

● What does my family say/know about me?

Can you spot the difference or differences?

Before Christ, I was a criminal, a liar, a cheat, bitter and selfish. I was cruel, lawless, and arrogant. I saw others beneath me even though I had nothing. I blamed everyone else for my failures except me. I was totally in denial. There was nothing good in me. Any act of kindness has a motive. The picture of me was very ugly even to me. Do I sound like you before Christ? Are you better or worse than me? Sin is sin.

In Christ, the same me but different somehow. I think that I am more responsible, gentle, happier, able to forgive, loving God more than myself, people say positive things about me, I want to believe that, and more. This is still my personal assessment which doesn't count much.

But who do people say you are? Are people reading you correctly? Do you reach out to people as you ought and according to Jesus' instructions? Are you a genuine follower of Jesus Christ and can the people around you testify to your character?

What do your spouse and children know about you? What are they saying about you? Are they reading you correctly or you present two fronts? Who is the real you?

Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. Who are you, who am I?

THE WORD: “But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (Col. 3:8-10 NIV)
